Meet Nicole
Proudly serving NM House District 31.
Nicole Chavez was elected to represent District 31 in 2024 and currently serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Health and Human Services Committee. As the first Hispanic woman elected to this office, she is committed to advancing policies that strengthen public safety, improve juvenile justice outcomes, and expand access to quality healthcare across New Mexico.
In addition to her legislative service, Nicole has worked in healthcare administration for more than 26 years, bringing extensive experience in health insurance, Medicare, and patient advocacy. Her professional background has given her firsthand insight into the healthcare challenges facing New Mexico families and seniors, shaping her commitment to improving access, affordability, and quality of care across the state.
Nicole’s commitment to public service was deeply shaped by the loss of her son, Jaydon. Following his death, she became a strong advocate for victims’ families, public safety reform, and accountability within New Mexico’s criminal justice system. That advocacy ultimately inspired her decision to run for office and work toward meaningful change for New Mexico families.
Her leadership and advocacy have earned recognition from the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association for her work supporting both public safety initiatives and healthcare access in the state.
Nicole lives in District 31 with her husband, Roberto, and their Cavapoo, Coco. Her youngest son, Joseph, will graduate with honors from La Cueva High School in May 2026. She recently embraced her favorite title yet “Mimi” with the arrival of her granddaughter, Adelina.
Representative Chavez remains dedicated to building a safer, stronger future for New Mexico families and creating opportunities that allow future generations to thrive right here at home.
